Iceland
Epsiode 1: 22nd-28th July 2015
My first visit to Iceland was part of an epic secondary school Geography trip to see all the amazing landforms in this spectacular country of Fire and Ice, a young geologist’s dream! From volcanoes to glaciers to newborne islands circled by puffins and orcas, Iceland has it all. While unfortunately many of the photos from this original trip have corrupted, this initial trip was just the beginning of what was later to come…

Episode 2: 6th-13th August 2024
The following photos here derive from my most recent field trip to Iceland to sample the 10th century Eldgjá fissure eruption as part of my emergent PhD research on climate-changing volcanic eruptions in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of St Andrews.
This trip marks the beginning of an exciting 3- to 4-year project spanning numerous large eruptions of the last 2000 years recorded in ice cores at high latitudes, which are excellent markers of global atmospheric change, including changes attributed to volcanoes. I am just at the cusp of this fascinating area of Earth Sciences, eager to learn more by delving deep into the volcanic and ice core records.
These are just a select few photos, you can find more in the blog post on the field trip linked here.
